‘Those Folk’ are a husband & wife musical duo that sing stunning vocal harmonies alongside guitar, accordion, mandolin & banjo.
Charismatic, authentic and thoroughly entertaining, Lawrence Menard (USA) and Clare Quinn (AUS) are the transpacific-troubadours known as ‘Those Folk.’ Having met in Scotland in 2012, they have since travelled extensively and lived in the pine forest mountains of California. They now hang their travelling hats in Pomona, Queensland.
A partnership forged in the fires of folk music, Those Folk explore sounds from the 1960’s folk revival and contemporary Americana music. Breathtaking vocal harmonies are featured alongside rich instrumental work performed on guitars, accordion, mandolin and banjo. Lawrence & Clare are storytellers who make audience members feel like fast friends. As songwriters they delve into love, hope, belonging, and the human condition. As performers they enthral, enchant, and leave a lasting impression.
2024 saw the band release their ‘Life Inside a Box’ album, tour the UK, and perform headline town hall concerts across the East Coast of Australia. Recent performance highlights include Woodford Folk Festival, Blue Mountains Music Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival, Cobargo Folk Festival, and The Gympie Music Muster.
Lawrence & Clare have been compared to the likes of Simon & Garfunkel and Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings. Those Folk make not just folk music, but music for all sorts of folk.
Those Folk are a perfectly blended duo of vocal harmonies and instruments, vital to any festival or show. Their music spans many times and genres with beautifully balanced, tight performances. They are a pleasure to watch and listen to. I want more of what they bring along! Basil Harvey - Artistic Director – Townsville Folk Festival, June 2025

Support from Tommy Arch

Tommy Arch is a true road-dog, having honed his craft through years of performing across the UK, both as a celebrated member of fiery folk-rockers Holy Moly & The Crackers and in his own right, supporting the likes of Eddy V, Damian Lewis, Beans On Toast, GA-20 & Daniel Kimbro.
With his captivating voice, raw guitar work, and deeply personal songwriting, Tommy has built a
reputation for delivering unforgettable live performances. His unique sound blends the best of soul, blues, and folk influences, – infused with a mastery of songwriting, learnt from obsessively listening to the old heroes; Bob Dylan, Townes Vans Zandt, Van Morrison and delivered with a powerful freight train voice reminiscence of singers like Ray Charles and Otis Redding.
This summer Tommy will release his debut record, recorded both with Kitty and Lewis Durham (from the acclaimed family roots band Kitty, Daisy and Lewis) and Polestar Studios (ran by members of the iconic band Penetration) – straight to tape, the real way. His songs cover everything from country ballads to soul anthems, all delivered with tongue-in-cheek humour and a passion for his craft.
Tommy will be touring the release in September and plans to announce dates this Spring to coincide with a series of special guest UK appearances with international psych-blues outfit DeWolff (NL), Texan singer-songwriter David Ramirez (USA) and cult punk rockers, The Mekons (UK).
“His vocal power and energy is like the Flying Scotsman locomotive steaming through the highlands... we whispered to each other, we’ve got to cut this cat ... We would also drink together every evening professing our love for Elvis Presley and Jim Reeves. He prefers a neat whiskey with his beer, and in the morning his coffee as black as the minute the lights go out in a cheap motel” Lewis Durham, from Kitty, Daisy and Lewis
