VOLUNTEERING

We are a small team of staff here at Alphabetti, but we have a large and lovely family of  volunteers who generously give their time to support us. Most of our volunteers work as a theatre usher, but we have also enlisted volunteers to help us in the office, in our workshop and prop store, and with building and painting. Many of our volunteers have gone on to work with us in one form or another, whether that be in writing or performing, working on the bar, even setting up the bookshop!

Becoming a volunteer for Alphabetti is a great way to get involved behind the scenes, meet people and make connections, see lots of great artistic work, and be part of a wonderful community in our city. We're firm believers in 'the more, the merrier', so we're always happy to welcome new members.

You must be over 18 to join most branches of the volunteering team.

Volunteer facilitator scheme

Alphabetti Theatre are looking to pilot an ongoing volunteer scheme for creatives looking to gain skills in arts facilitation. This role is suitable for those who're looking to expand their avenues for freelance work within their specific arts background, have a passion for working with particular communities, or want to see if arts facilitation is for them in a controlled, supervised environment. Please fill out the form below as an expression of interest!

The scheme will give you skills in outreaching to groups and demographics you're interested in engaging with, diversify your range of demographics you may want to facilitate to (i.e. children, vulnerable adults, etc.), teach you how to write workshop plans, and give you skills and confidence in delivering workshops safely and comfortably.

You will be led and mentored by Alphabetti's Community Engagement Coordinator, who will aim to guide you in building these skills.

What will volunteers receive?

- practical experience in arts facilitation with a professional theatre

- a place on Alphabetti's database of freelance facilitators for possible future paid facilitation work

- a reference/letter of recommendation from Alphabetti's Community Engagement Coordinator, for you to use when applying for future facilitation work

- 1:1 consultations with the Community Engagement Coordinator, with the aims of providing you with next steps on how to go about working with other groups within the local community arts industry.

- discount on drinks at the Alphabetti Bar

- complimentary tickets to Alphabetti Theatre productions

Please note that trainees are asked to commit on a volunteer basis, and Alphabetti cannot guarantee future work within the organisation. All volunteers must be over 18.

For any other questions or queries regarding the scheme, please contact Audrey at community@alphabettitheatre.co.uk. We aim to respond to all submissions and queries within 10 working days.
