Goal! is a 2005 British sports drama film, considered a cult classic; especially amongst us geordies!

Santiago Muñez, a young immigrant living in the barrios of Los Angeles, has an impossible dream - to become a professional football player. Unexpectedly getting a try-out with one of England's premier football clubs, Newcastle United, Santiago finds himself totally alone in a world where soccer is a religion and the players are treated like gods.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the sports sequences and Becker's performance but criticism for the screenplay, with many labelling it cliché. Despite this, Goal! is considered to be a cult film, with Newcastle United, the team featured in the film, seeing a direct rise in popularity as a result.
