Auditions: Walter and The Trench Experience

Alphabetti Theatre in partnership with The Worriers and Discovery Museum are casting for our upcoming production of Walter by Steve Byron & The Trench Experience (working title) created by Gary Kitching, with support from Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund.

This double bill of work is inspired by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums exhibition - 'Charge!' at the Discovery Museum.

The productions are aimed at ages 7+ and will be performed as part of a wider schools projects with supporting workshops either side. For more information about the whole project please click here for more information.

WALTER

WALTER tells the tale of a courageous homing pigeon named Walter during World War One. It is up to Walter to carry an important message across the trenches and the battlefields, above the mud, blood and across the waters. Embarking on an “adventure to end all adventures”, Walter must face dangers at every turn, but with bravery and determination to fulfil his master’s one final wish…

The part:

One female actor – any playing age, with ability in storytelling and to convincingly play multiple characters in a single performance. Strong physical acting skills would also be an advantage.

Audition date: Thursday 4th October, 10.00am-6.00pm

Rehearsals: Monday 15th October – Friday 2nd November (excluding weekends)

Get in, Tech & Dress: Monday 5th November

Performance dates: Tuesday 6th – Friday 9th November at 10.15am and 1.00pm daily (schools only), and Saturday 10th November at 2.30pm (open to public)

Pay: £1600

 

THE TRENCH EXPERIENCE

The Trench Experience is a short (15 min) sensory, immersive experience in which a First World War trench is recreated in Alphabetti Theatre’s rehearsal room. Audiences will be welcomed into the trench by a performer and will experience life in the trenches, and will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact at the end.

The part:

One male actor – any playing age, with strong devising skills and experience in working collaboratively. Strong physical acting skills, ability in storytelling and to confidently improvise in response to questions from audience members whilst in character.

Audition date: Thursday 4th October, 10.00am-6.00pm

Rehearsal dates flexible – to be agreed with creator: equivalent to 1.5 weeks

Get in, Tech & Dress: Monday 5th November

Performance dates: Tuesday 6th – Friday 9th November at 11.15am, 11.45am, 2.00pm and 2.30pm daily (schools only), and Saturday 10th November at 1.30pm and 4.00pm (open to public)

Pay: £770

 

Deadline: Please send a CV and headshot, and any other links, to Chloe Stott at by 5pm on Tuesday 2nd October. Successful applicants will be contacted on Wednesday 3rd October by email and must be available for audition on Thursday 4th October.

Auditions will be held at Alphabetti Theatre, St James’ Boulevard, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4HP.
