Auditions: Three Shorts

Alphabetti Theatre are casting six performers for their upcoming production Three Shorts, as part of the Just Write project.

This triple bill of new work is a nod to the original Three Shorts staged in 2013, one of the first productions from Alphabetti Theatre in its first venue. The pieces have been developed with Alphabetti’s Associate Literary Producer, Ben Dickenson, and will be performed as a collection over a week’s run.

The fee, audition date, span of rehearsal dates and performance dates are the same for each piece.

Fee: £400 (£10p/h x 40 hrs)
As worked out as part of Equity’s Fringe Theatre rates.

Audition date: Monday 8th July 2019

Rehearsals: You will be contracted for a total of 24 hours for rehearsal, during the dates of:

Monday 19th – Friday 30th August 2019 (excluding weekends)

Get-in, Tech & Dress: Monday 2nd September 2019

Performance dates: Tuesday 3rd – Saturday 7th September. Call time 6:45pm.

All actors need to be comfortable working closely together, as some of these pieces tackle sensitive and challenging issues, including sexual situations.

FAMILIAR by SAM NEALE

A complex story of a couple’s relationship and its breakdown, told through episodes of their time together from their first night, their break up, and their interaction 20 years later. This piece explores power, love, sexual indiscretion, memory, and the boundaries of romantic relationships.

Casting Breakdown:

  • She – female. Playing age 25 – 45.
  • He – male. Playing age 25 – 45.

 

NASA LIE, THE EARTH IS FLAT NO CURVE by ELIJAH YOUNG

It’s 5am and Sharon and Amy are waiting outside work for Amy’s cab home to arrive. Sharon hasn’t worked at the club for long, and this chat over some Pom Bears is the first meaningful conversation the pair have had. As it unfolds, Amy reveals some troubling information, and Sharon seals their bond by offering her help.

Casting Breakdown:

  • Sharon – female. Playing age 40s – 50s.
  • Amy – female. Playing age 30s.

 

OBJECT PERMANENCE – ALLISON DAVIES

Tez is one of life’s ‘invisibles’, struggling to balance her low-paid job that she doesn’t care about, with caring for her father, a former performance musician suffering from dementia. One particular day, Tez forgets to lock the door and her dad goes missing, sparking a search to find him and keep him safe.

Casting Breakdown:

  • Tez – female. Playing age 20s – 40s.
  • Dad – male. Playing age 60s – 70s. Homebound and in early stage dementia.
